Analysing big open human mobility data and contrasting it with access to opportunities using R

Tutorial, International Conference for Computational Social Science (IC2S2), 2025

Together with E. Kotov, I held a workshop at the International Conference for Computational Social Science (IC2S2). We introduced data sources and tools for the acquisition, analysis and visualisation of big open mobility data. As a case study, we presented accesssibility analysis using open mobility data from Spain, acquired with spanishoddata and visualised with flowmapper.

Mobility analysis using big data approaches

Guest Lectures, University of Cape Coast, 2023

M. Sapena, E. Schoepfer, H. Taubenböck and I held a series of online guest lectures in the seminar of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana, our partner organisation in the MIGRAWARE project who I had the privilege of visiting in 2023. After our talks, we had engaging discussions with the students from UCC about the capabilities of earth observation data and the potentials and challenges of social media analysis.

Migration: Remote Sensing and Other Data Sources for Analysis

Guest Lectures, Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, 2022

As part of our collaboration with the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna in the context of the WASCAL and MIGRAWARE projects, we had the privilege of conducting a series of online lectures, together with M. Weigand, M. Sapena, and H. Taubenböck. We demonstrated and discussed applications of remote sensing in the context of urbanisation, georisks, and human migration.

Science from Wall to Wall

Guest Lecturer, University of Würzburg, 2022

Guest Lecturer in the course “Science from Wall to Wall”, part of the M.Sc. programme “applied Earth Observation and Geoanalysis of the Living Environment” at the University of Würzburg (2022 & 2023).
